Palala Cottages is situated in a privately owned game reserve, the Palala River Reserve, named after the river that runs through it. It is located in an area in the Limpopo province in South Africa known as the Waterberg. Game on the reserve includes White Rhino, Giraffe, Burchell’s Zebra, Kudu, Eland, Impala, Warthog, Bushpig and much more.
Please note that 4x4 in not necessary to navigate the roads but a vehicle with high clearance would be recommended.
River Cottage secluded, private and fully equipped. Come and stay here to escape to the peace and tranquillity of the bush. Wide diversity of game including rhino, leopard, hippo, crocodile 7 km of the beautiful Palala river winds through the middle of the reserve Malaria free 3 hours drive from Johannesburg Abundant bird life Self-drive game viewing Guided walks and game drives subject to availability. Crockery, cutlery, stove, kettle and toaster are provided. All you need to bring is your own food and drinks, and possibly ice. Bath towels and bed linen will be provided. You can self-drive or walk on the reserve. Guided game drives and walks can be booked through Jembisa Lodge.
Kingfisher cottage can sleep up to 10 people, has a bathroom, lounge area - with fireplace, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. The two rondawels can each sleep 2 people and each rondawel has its own bathroom. Kingfisher also has a splash pool and a big braai area with covered garage. Bath towels and bed linen will be provided.
All the Podica chalets, 3 in total are build on bank of the Palala River and the Wild olive thicket, overlooking the beautiful view of the Palala River. Each chalet has a fully equipped kitchen, braai area, en-suite bath and a lovely outdoor shower for the summer months! Towel and bed linen are provided - Firewood can be provided per bundle

Directions:
From Johannesburg International Airport
* Take R21 to Pretoria for about 20 minutes
* Take the N1 highway North towards Pietersburg / Polokwane.
* Turn off at the Kranskop toll gate (third toll gate) to Nylstroom/Modimolle.
* Go through Nylstroom/Modimolle to Vaalwater (? 60km).
* In Vaalwater turn right at the stop street towards Melkriver (there is only one stop street in Vaalwater).
* Go ? 42 km and turn left onto a gravel road marked Melkriver School/Lapalala.
* After 6km turn right (there is an old Cape Dutch farm house on the right hand side) and pass the Rhino Museum.
* From the Rhino Museum drive 3.3km, the main entrance to Jembisa Lodge will be on your right.
Kingfisher Cottage
* continue past the main entrance to Jembisa.
* After 1km the road bends to the left.
* At the bottom of the hill, the Kingfisher gate will be on your right. Kingfisher entrance is before the Palala river bridge.
Podica chalets
* continue past the main entrance to Jembisa.
* After 1km the road bends to the left, go over the Palala River Bridge and through the electric gate.
* Drive another 1km and keep to the right of the fork and follow the Podica signs.
River Cottage
* Do not take the Lapalala turn, but stay on the Melkrivier Road from Vaalwater until you reach a T-Junction.
* Turn left at the T, and approximately 2 kms on the left hand side you will see a farm gate.
* This is just before you cross the Palala River. Someone will greet you at the gate.
Rates:
River Cottage rates are R275 - R300 per person per night.
Kingfisher rates are R 230- R 260 pp per night.
Podica rates are R 220- R240 pp per night.
